Location
  • Though built in late 19th century, Wheatleigh was styled as a 16th-century Florentine palazzo – an idea created by Henry H. Cook (a descendent of Captain Thomas Cook) as a wedding present to his daughter.

Wheatleigh is still in private hands but run as a boutique hotel that has kept the original inspiration of Mediterranean theme that lives through the antique decor, period architecture as well as fine European dining.
You’ll be spoiled rotten for style in this 19-room establishment. There is space thanks to the ornate high ceilings, there is light coming through the magnificent large windows, illuminating the exquisite Europe inspired classic interiors, and there is an impeccable service to accompany it all.

    Good to Know

The hotel houses one of the best restaurants in the country, turning out a Mediterranean fare.

Breakfast isn’t usually part of your rates but high speed internet and daily wine tastings are.

Just like a real palace, this one does not come cheap either and for the smallest of rooms you need to be prepared to pay handsomely.

  • Accommodation

19 rooms – The Small Room, Superior Rooms, Junior Suites, The Terrace Suite, and The Aviary.

Top rooms – Deluxe rooms are a good entry level but the Small Room and Aviary are truly indulgent.

Prices range between $715 and $2,100 a night, excluding tax and breakfast .

    Eat & Drink

Considered one of the best in the country, the hotel kitchen sends its fine dining fare to the more informal Library, the grand dining room and, by far the most spectacular, outdoor terrace set under an arch supported by magnificent columns.

Drinking-wise, you can settle in the hotel’s Library, lined with antique cabinets full of fine porcelain on display, rather than books. Or you can take your drink pretty much on within the hotel and its grounds

    Activities

The hotel has a state of the art fitness room, outdoor heated pool, and a tennis court.

    Relaxation

The grounds and surrounding scenery is soothing as are the hotel’s in-room spa treatments and the shiatsu massage room.

    Essentials

    Parking – onsite.

    Wifi – free throughout.

    Room service – 24/7.

Children – welcome but better leaving them at home.
