The name Ace Hotel & Swim Club reveals a lot about the nature and charms of this 60s chic hideaway in the heart Palm Springs.

Location
  • On the outside it has the appearance of a tired 60′s motel (which in fact it is) but on the inside it has been stripped down and rebuilt as a retro-chic hideaway with a distinct ‘glamping’ ambience.

Don’t expect the ultimate luxury. The 180 bedrooms have a bohemian feel to them, created with the help of vintage furniture, oriental rugs, handicrafts from all over the world and vinyl record players.

As for the Swim Club, two pools surrounded by lounge chairs and framed by tall palms. You’ll hardly have the reason to get out of your swimsuit as this is also where to relax with a drink, catch a snooze in a hammock or bubble up in the jacuzzi.

Further entertainment is provided by the organic Feel Good Spa, sauna, fully fitted gym, yoga classes, and cool poolside events.

    Good to Know

Restaurant and bar may have updated their menus (organic ingredients where possible served with imaginative cocktails) but the feel is still very much back in the old days.

The pools are open until 2am and the hotel attracts crowds out to party so if you’re after a quiet night (always a challenge in a motel), book a room away from the pool area.

  • Accommodation

180 rooms – Simple and Standard Rooms, King Lounge, Patio with Fireplace or Garden, Suites are Simple, Side by Side, and Ace.

Top rooms – Patio rooms with a garden or fireplace. For a quiet night, book a room away from the pool.

Prices start from around £145 a night excluding breakfast and there will be an additional $20 resort fee which gets you free parking, internet, bike rentals, use of fitness, spa and 2 swimming pool facilities.

    Eat & Drink

The old fashion roadside diner, now named The King’s Highway, dishes up a classic American fare and has a nostalgic ambience complete with old-fashioned booths and performances from the old-Hollywood hostess.

The Amigo Room is once again based on the past, styled as a ranch-hand bar, but serving up to date selection of drinks and cocktails.

    Activities

There is a fully fitted gym, yoga and water aerobics classes, and bicycles at your disposal.

    Relaxation

Revive in the organic Feel Good Spa or take a refuge in the sauna before joining the cool poolside events.
