In 2010 The Sunday Times picked The Bell Inn, a 15th-century coaching inn set in the heart of Essex, for their list of 10 best gastropubs in the UK.
And this is only one of the many accolades collected over the years by this charming local, belonging to the village of Horndon on the Hill. The menu at the pub changes daily and firmly focuses on the best of British produce, ideally sourced from the nearby farms and fields. Rather than keeping up with the Jones’s, sourcing locally has always been the policy of the family establishment.
Just like with the menu, you have a satisfying choice of lodging too. 15 rooms are on offer, individually styled and all very reasonably priced. Bonson and Josephine happen to be very eye catching.
