Location
  • The Babington House, a crossbreed between a luxury home and boutique hotel, puts quite a stress on the latter part of its name through maintaining a distinctively homely atmosphere. The spacious bedrooms are very livable while the rest of the house offers an array of comforts and entertainment.

The room design draws inspiration from different eras – free standing bathtubs, period furnishing, four-poster beds, combined with modern materials and retro touches. All in all, an accomplished effort.

The Walled Garden part of the house is particularly enticing, given its near proximity to the hotel’s Cowshed Spa and a handful of indulgent suites that aid your seduction techniques with private treatment facilities, spa, steam rooms and outdoor space with soaking hot tubs.

    Good to Know

The house has just completed a refurbishment during which, aside updating the decor, the outdoor and indoor pools have been extended.

The Cowshed Spa divides into two areas – Active and Relax, designed to take care of your body & soul.

Adjacent to Cowshed Relax, the three Walled Garden Rooms offer steaming hot tubs.

Suits and mobiles are not permitted.

While children are welcome, certain parts of the hotel are off limits to them.

  • Accommodation

32 rooms – 11 in the Main House, 3 in the Spa (these come with outdoor hot tubs), 5 Family Rooms in the Stable Block, and the Lodge (a 3-bedroom cottage)

Rooms generally costs around £180 a night but go up for the weekend or rooms of a higher category. Rates do not include breakfast.

    Eat & Drink

You have two options here – Deli Bar for casual eating and the more formal and elaborate in menu Orangery. The adjoining Log Room holds banquets.

Coloured in pastel tones, the comfy but chic hotel bar cares for drinking tastes of all kinds. The TV screens can spoil the atmosphere though.

    Activities

There are extensive grounds great for walks, grass and hard tennis courts, cricket pitch, grass five-a-side football pitches, a lake, and a walled garden.

Cowshed Active – the energetic part of the spa is home to swimming pools, fitness studio and gym with the latest Technogym kit.

Off site but arranged through the reception you can pick from ballooning, golf, rock climbing, horse riding and shooting.

    Relaxation

The Cowshed Relax offers rejuvenation through its facilities of steam and sauna rooms, Dry and Wet treatments rooms and hot tubs.

The hotel entertaining side consists of a library, 45-seat cinema and The Pool Room which has a full-sized American pool table and a games cupboard.

    Essentials

    Parking – available on site.

    Wifi – free throughout.

Room service – available between 7am and 11pm

Children – welcomed and assistance provided but certain areas are off limits.

Pets – to our knowledge not allowed but it’s worth asking.
