Calcot Manor, a 14th-century farmhouse convert in Gloucestershire, has successfully joined the seemingly incompatible romantic spa retreat and family-friendly country escape in a very happy matrimony.
Admittedly if you’re a complete child-hater, this hotel may not be for you. For any other adults, whether with kids or not, Calcot Manor would be a dreamy escape to the country. Its sophisticated grown up design suggests little in the way of a family retreat. Everything has been done up in a contemporary-meet-country style filled with tones of solid wood and elegant soft furnishing, masterfully combined with modern touches for that extra dose of indulgence.
As an adult you can look forward to sleek bathtubs made for two, white table cloth in the dining room, carefully thought-through art collection adorning most walls, and of course the award winning spa, situated in a quiet corner of Calcot Manor’s grounds .
Children on the other hand will adore the entertainment laid out for them in the form of outdoor playgrounds, a packed indoor game room complete with Wii, Xbox, PlayStation, home cinema, dedicated kid’s pool, and equipment to try hand at a number of outdoor pursuits within the hotel’s 220 acres.

The spa pool is off limits to children before 3.45pm and after 5.15pm on weekdays and before 8.45am and after 10.15am at weekends.
If you’re arriving with kids, make sure you book a family room. Not all rooms can accommodate families.
